Supporting PoTSDarling are proud to support PoTS UK, the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to supporting patients and their families with a diagnosis of Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS). Onset is most common in young women and the disorder affects the autonomic or involuntary nervous system, meaning that even simple changes in posture can lead to symptoms including headaches, fatigue, palpitations, sweating, nausea, fainting, dizziness and brain-fog.
This little-known and under-diagnosed chronic health condition is slowly gaining recognition from PoTS UK and its members's efforts to educate the medical community and the general public. We have wonderful supporters in Peter Capaldi and Phil Hammond as well as some recent high-profile sufferers such as Ella Woodward of Deliciously Ella - who has spoken openly about her PoTS - and credits her super-healthy plant-based diet for helping her manage her condition.
Although it is not a life-limiting disease, for most sufferers it is a long-term condition and it is extremely life altering, with 25% of sufferers unable to work or study. The real tragedy of PoTS is that once treated, 90 % of patients improve – but the average time to reach a diagnosis is currently 7 years in the UK. Given that onset typically occurs in teenage years or young adulthood, critical and irrecoverable educational and relationship opportunities are lost.
PoTS UK offers support, advice and encouragement to individuals with PoTS, helping sufferers to continue living a valuable and rewarding life despite this challenging health condition. They initiate and support research, hold lectures, help to fundraise and work on medical awareness campaigns.
